Here is the worst part, it is effective Jan 1 for current retirees. We have people who are sick with cancer, widows who lost their spouses (not in the line of duty), and retirees who cannot get work to get benefits. They will be forced to pay 100% of their premiums. We have created a whole new class of poverty here. We have one retiree saying he needs to die before the deadline as not to hurt his wife.
That's the issue. They have made the employees seem ungrateful for their raises, but really they aren't ungrateful, they are scared, angry, and hurt because they have been thrown under the bus and their families are being forced into extreme poverty with no way out.
They are not ungrateful to the citizens, that's why they still show up for work. In the 3rd most dangerous city in the U.S. our employees deserve to be taken care of. They earned it. We will never be half the city we once were if we don't fix this now. I only pray it isn't too late.
